Chamber Continues To Pursue Efforts To Promote Fairborn.
Their slogan for this promotion is: “It's Fair Time to Think Fairborn”. The Chamber continues to work with the Sign Post Forest in Hof/Germany by adding another FAIRBORN sign to the Forest. John Dalton, Executive Director of the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce said, “we are pleased to have the opportunity to include Fairborn signage, which will be seen by millions of people from around the world”. Dalton, emphasized the fact that Fairborn was no longer a bedroom community for any municipality – Fairborn IS a City of more than 32,000 great and proud people – second to none. Dalton, added that Fairborn remains eager to work, cooperate and assist other communities, but not willing to give up its identity. We are the home of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University, plus many other defense and education related businesses.

Mr. Pete Bales, Superintendent, Parks & Recreation for the City of Fairborn and Mr. John Dalton, Executive Director, Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce are both members of a special committee formed by Wright-Patt Credit Union and WHIO TV Channel 7 to develop a program to cheer Colonel Gregory H. Johnson, NASA Astronaut, on his first flight into space - wishing him a safe and successful flight. His flight is tentatively scheduled for March 13, 2008. These signs will be placed at all major entrances into the City of Fairborn. There will be additional programs, TV spots and news articles shown from time to time until the flight is launched. Colonel Johnson is a 1980 graduate of Park Hills High School.

John G. Dalton, Executive Director, Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce working with the Chief, Public Affairs, 445th Airlift Wing (AFRC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Fairborn, Ohio with the approval of B/General Bruce Davis, Commander, 445th Airlift Wing.
Dalton initiated a request through the 445th to the Air Force Reserve (to which the C-5's at Wright-Patt are assigned) to gain approval to have a previously designed logo and tag line painted on the nose of a C-5 promoting the City of Fairborn, Ohio as the home of the “First Schoolhouse of Aviation), now know as Huffman Prairie, located on Wright-Patterson AFB. After numerous re-writes of the request letter, numerous drawings and etc., Dalton's request was approved by the Vice Chief of Staff of the United States of Air Force. The nose was painted as Dalton had requested some 2 plus year earlier. The C-5 “City of Fairborn” dedication ceremony was held on October 29, 2007. Dalton, said “the photos of the plane and its nose art will be placed on the chamber's website www.fairborn.com and on the chamber marketing brochures. Dalton is no stranger to the C-5 Galaxy aircraft. In 1968, the year the C-5 came on line he was in the Atlanta, GA area on temporary duty and had the opportunity to visit Lockheed-Georgia company, builder of the aircraft. He toured both the plant and a C-5. The Lockheed-Georgia Company presented Dalton with a personal model of the C-5. In fact, the aircraft he toured in April 1968 is stationed in the 445th here at Wright-Patt. The Chamber is very proud of this accomplishment and thanks those who assisted in the long drawn out process. Especially the Chief and Staff of the 445th Public Affairs office and of course, General Bruce Davis, Commander 445th.

The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce purchased and installed several of these signs around the entrances into the City of Fairborn as another effort to promote the high degree of involvement Fairborn has had in the development of the world's first practical airplane on Huffman Prairie in 1904-1905. Fairborn is home to the first airport in the world located at the Huffman Prairie where the Wright Brothers taught more than 100 pilots for the military, including 2 of the first naval aviators. The actual location can be visited by tourist.

The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fairborn have been supporters of the USAF Marathon since its inception, by providing volutneers to man the aide stations and perform other duties as needed. Now that the 5K is being run on the campus of Wright State University, the University has been included to the "Home of the USAF Marathon" list. The WSU Nutter Center at WSU serves as facility for vendors to display their marathon merchandise. The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Greene County Convention and Visitors Bureau will be including the Marathon in its ongoing program to make Greene County become a destination for tourist.

The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce is participating with the Wright-Patt Credit Union and WHIO TV Channel 7 in the development of a program to wish Colonel Gregory H. Johnson, NASA Astronaut a safe, successful and enjoyable trip on his trip into space. The Colonel is a graduate of the Fairborn School system and has been in the NASA program for more than ten (10) years. A real hero for the City of Fairborn, Greene County, the State of Ohio and in fact, for the Nation. Members representing the Downtown Fairborn Business Association, Greene County Convention & Visitors Bureau joined members of the Chamber Ambassadors Club in the television photo portion of the program.

The Chamber has been a strong supporter of the United States Air Force Marathon. The Chamber is proud to announce that permission has been given by the appropriate officials to include the military legal office, for the chamber to install permanent signage around the city to announce that Fairborn, Wright State University and Wright-Patterson have been designated as the Home of the USAF Marathon. The Chamber feels that it can no longer sit by and watch our neighbors falsely claim and/or take undue credit for Fairborn facilities, events and etc. Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce & the Greene County Convention & Visitors Bureau procured the signs and the City of Fairborn will be installing them soon.
